VM CAREER CENTRE

The Career Centre has been busy with Grade 10 & 11 students providing mock interviews. It was great practice for students who are looking to step into the work force. The Career Centre is hosting a new event called ‘For the Love of Work’. It will be a career exploration week where students will have the chance to gain information surrounding entrepreneurs in the Westman area. 

AC & BU ADMISSION DAY

The admission teams from BU and AC will be in the Massey library during the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 12th. They will be accepting applications and waiving application fees for that morning only. If students are interested in applying they will need a paper copy of their transcript. Students can go to Student Services to request a transcript before Feb. 12th.

NEXT YEAR’S REGISTRATION QUICKLY APPROACHING!!

Course planning has begun!! Students are currently involved in planning for the 2025-2026 school year. School counsellors and career staff have been diving into a program called Xello, where students can navigate their way though course selections. Feb.25th registration paperwork will be given out during home room meetings. The deadline for registrations will be in March.

CELEBRATE

UPCOMING CONCERT SERIES

Feb. 14th and 15th the Jazz Band & Choir are attending Music Camp at Camp Wannakumbac! Check out the grade 10 Concert Band and Wind Ensemble's upcoming gig on Feb. 20th! These music maestros will be blowing the roof off at the Winnipeg Concert Band Festival held at the Wpg Convention Centre. Be there or be square!

SEMESTER ONE COMPLETED!

VM crew is bursting with pride for all the students and their efforts during the last 5 months. We can't wait to see what you conquer next semester! Here's to your success, KEEP SHINING!!!

STUDIES IN SHAKESPEARE

Grade 9 English classes are gearing up for a Shakespeare adventure! They'll be heading to the WMCA on Feb. 27th to catch the Mecca production of Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

ANISHINAABE CLASS

Mrs. Sinclair's Anishinaabe class is diving into the world of chess with a cultural twist! They’re crafting a one-of-a-kind chessboard featuring buffalo bishops, ribbon skirt queens, kings sporting headdresses and spears, mini tipis, and medicine wheel pieces. The students wrapped up this creative endeavor as part of their Games Unit—checkmate, culture style!

'I LOVE TO READ' MONTH!

Love is in the air! The VM book club has set its sights on the romance genre for February! Every member is getting lost in the pages of a different novel and getting ready to spill the tea about them at the end of the month. Let the love stories begin!

GRADE 8 OPEN HOUSE

We are excited to invite all Grade 8 students and their families to our annual Open House event on February 13th. This is a great opportunity to explore our school, meet the teachers and staff, and learn about the various programs we offer. Families will learn about our academic programs, extracurricular activities, and student services. We look forward to seeing you at our Grade 8 Open House and sharing with you all the wonderful opportunities that await you at our school.

LACROSSE SEASON IS HERE!

Come on out and dive into the world of Lacrosse! We're throwing some "Try It Days" for all you curious cats who want to see what this fast-paced game is all about. No prior experience? No problem! Just bring your enthusiasm and let the fun begin! Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board by the Career Centre.

Only 5 months until grad 2025!!! Parents/guardians & students keep an eye on your email for updated and new information. Info can also be found in the Grade 12 TEAMS channel under GRAD 2025. A few things to check off your list... 

1) Fill out the online grad form.

2) Grad photos - Feb. 10-21.

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

A random act of kindness is a small gesture that can make a positive difference in someone else’s life. Here are some ways to engage:

• Write a positive message to someone 
• Shovel someone’s driveway 
• Give a compliment
• Open the door for someone
• Write a handwritten card to someone
• Leave a positive review online of a local business
• Pick up trash on the ground 
• Lend a helping hand
• Donate unused items to charity
• Volunteer your time 
• Bring in the trash/recycling bin for your neighbour
• Brush the snow off of your friend or neighbours car
• Send an email to your teacher, coworker, friend, or boss to let them know how they’ve helped you 
• Buy the coffee of the person behind you in the drive through 
• Randomly buy a bouquet of flowers for a friend or family member
• Call a friend or family member and tell them how amazing they are
