What is the Student Recognition Awards?

The Vincent Massey Student Recognition Awards were created to recognize the outstanding efforts of our students in our school community. Students are encouraged to balance their academic life, athletic life, performing arts passions and to give back to our school community. Students who meet the challenge in any of these areas deserve to be recognized for their talents!


The characteristics that will be considered when nominating students for commitment, attitude and acceptable conduct are as follows:

  • Commitment: attendance, punctuality, supports program goals and tasks and performance.
  • Attitude: positive contribution to activity, cooperative.
  • Conduct: respects student conduct policy, good representative of Vincent Massey.


Athletics: 

A roster player or manager for one school team, nominated by the coach and/or staff supervisor, and meets the overall criteria for commitment, attitude, and acceptable conduct. Student involved in school organize athletics and activities will be recognized in this category. 

Academics:

  • Grade 9 - 80% average with a completion of a minimum of 8 credits for the academic year.
  • Grade 10 - 80% average with a completion of a minimum of 8 credits for the academic year.
  • Grade 11 - 80% average with a completion of a minimum of 6 credits for the academic year.
  • Grade 12 - 80% average for the academic year.

Note: Academics is based on the weighted average. Courses without a numerical grade (IN or CO) such as physical education do not count towards student recognition. 

Fine & Performing Arts: 

Nominated by the staff supervisor and meets the overall criteria for commitment, attitude and acceptable conduct.

  • Brandon Jazz Festival in March - students do not need to be music students to volunteer at the festival
  • Culturama - performed at the event
  • Debate Club
  • Grad Band 
  • Grad Choir
  • Guitar Club
  • Karaoke Club
  • Major Production
  • Vincent Massey Creative Writing Club


Note: enrollment in choir or band classes does not qualify for the fine & performing arts category. 

School Citizenship:

Student's participation in a teacher/staff-led school club will qualify them for the school citizenship category. 

Students must be nominated by the staff supervisor and meets the overall criteria for commitment, attitude and acceptable conduct.

Note: student-led special interest groups do not qualify for school citizenship 


The students will be recognized according to the following categories:

Certificate of Achievement - criteria achievement for one category

Bronze Medallion - criteria achievement for two categories

Silver Medallion - criteria achievement for three categories

Gold Medallion - criteria achievement for four categories
