National Child Day (November 20, 2024)
National Child Day, celebrated on November 20th each year, is a day dedicated to recognizing the rights and well-being of children across Canada and around the world. Celebrated since 1993, National Child Day is an opportunity for communities, organizations, and governments to reflect on the importance of nurturing and protecting the rights of children. The day encourages society to focus on the essential role that children play in the future and to ensure that they are provided with the support and resources necessary for their development and well-being.
This year, we want to come together to celebrate identity in children and youth and the things that make them unique. A child’s sense of identity begins to form in early childhood and becomes more defined in adolescence, and children and youth need opportunities to learn who they are. Every child has unique strengths and abilities that make them special, and they deserve to be celebrated.
